Detailed description of Streamsong Resort, Blue Course

Streamsong Resort is a resort 54-hole golf facility located in Streamsong, Florida. This somewhat remote Polk County location is conveniently located about 50 miles Southeast of Tampa, 27 miles South of Lakeland and 85 miles Southwest of Orlando. The facility has three 18-hole championship golf courses, and they are The Red Course. The Blue Course and The Black Course.

Streamsong Resort opened for play in 2012. The Red Course and The Blue Course were jointly designed by Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design and Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw of Coore & Crenshaw. The noted designers were intrigued by the opportunity to utilize mined land and to work side-by-side on their two courses at Streamsong Resort, a 16,000-acre project being developed by The Mosaic Company, the world's leading producer and marketer of phosphate-based crop nutrients. The courses were built on reclaimed mine land. The designers moved little to no dirt in building the course as they liked the pits and sand dunes that were left over from the mining days. The Black Course, designed by Gil Hanse opened at the end of September 2017.

The Blue Course __________________

The course has a very raw look with the dunes, wild native grasses, and sand waste areas. Everything is understated and blends into the surrounding land. You stand on the dunes and look around and see nothing but natural land for miles, and you do not hear a sound.

There is a bit of Scottish links feel to the course. Tall grasses and dunes off the fairways, deep bunkers with natural sand from the site (nothing trucked in). Almost constant breeze/winds will greatly affect shots because there are few trees and no buildings to block the wind. No fringe or transition cuts around the greens, so a lot of bump and run strategy.

A big change from most Florida courses where you are surrounded by houses. No palms, no primping, no flower beds, definitely not your average Florida golf courses. But at (according to their web site) a day of golf at $399, this is also not priced like your average Florida golf course. This is a definite destination course complex.

We played on a quiet day so the pace of play was fast. The caddie was helpful, polite and congenial,so I give him (Andy) and A+ rating! I really enjoyed the course - as a novice golfer it was different than any course I've ever played. I loved the natural setting and the fact that there were no houses or buildings (except the clubhouse) in sight. On the down side, the clubhouse restaurant food was over priced and mediocre and drinks were quite expensive.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles
Bottom line: Better than average course for the area, Better courses for less nearby

great experience! Fantastic layout and conditioning. Staff was a pleasure to deal with. Caddy pricing is difficult to understand for people not used to dealing with caddies. A true must play.

Would travel: 120-300 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Best course in the area

This is the type of course you will play only once in a year, as it is somewhat pricey - normal cost will be in the $250 to $300 range, depending on whether you use a one-on-one caddie or take carts with a Fore Caddy. Having said that, it is worth the cost to be able to play on such a great layout - Tom Doak took an outstanding piece of land and built what I feel will be one of the top courses in the world.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area
